Protecting Water for a Sustainable Future
Follow our journey in promoting clean water and sanitation initiatives in Moldova.
Who are we?
Hello! We are a group of 4 students in 11th grade in the Lyceum "Prometeu-Prim", from The Republic of Moldova, and we have created a series of projects aiming towards encouraging the achieving of SDG no. 6: "Clear Water and Sanitation". Inspired by our clever chemistry teacher, Daniela Șterbeț, we intend to spread information about the importance of protecting water sources.

WEEK 1: Introduction of the 17 goals
Get informed about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of UN.
The 17 Goals of the United Nations, formally known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aim to address global challenges and promote prosperity while protecting the planet. Established in 2015, these goals provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. Each goal encompasses various targets that focus on critical issues such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, and peace and justice.

WEEK 2: SDG no. 6 ”Clean Water and Sanitation”
Get acquainted with Goal no. 6 and its importance.
Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) focuses on ensuring availability and management of water and sanitation for all. Access to clean water is fundamental for health, as it prevents waterborne diseases and promotes hygiene, thereby improving the quality of life.

WEEK 3: Steps towards achieving clean water
See the creative projects and ideas recommended by our 6th grade students for accomplishing clean water.
Access to clean water is a fundamental human right. To achieve this goal, several steps are essential. Firstly, promoting awareness about water conservation is vital, as it encourages responsible usage and reduces waste. Also, education on hygiene practices, such as proper sanitation and safe water handling, can significantly reduce waterborne diseases. Together, these steps form a comprehensive approach to ensuring that clean water is accessible to all.

WEEK 4: The impact of clean water on the environment
Study the way in which all water sources are connected, through our informative mind map.
The cleanliness of water is crucial for the health of ecosystems and the overall environment. Clean water bodies support a diverse range of wildlife, providing habitats for aquatic species and promoting biodiversity. When water is polluted, it can lead to the degradation of these ecosystems, resulting in the loss of flora and fauna.
Conclusion
Our project highlights the critical importance of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 6, which focuses on ensuring sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. This project has demonstrated the urgent need to address water scarcity and pollution, particularly in vulnerable communities. By implementing effective strategies and promoting sustainable practices, we can achieve equitable access to clean water and sanitation facilities.
